Researching Trust Funds

Each trust fund has a different set of guidelines and criteria and it is essential that you research the trust funds before making your application.

Largest Trust Funds
One method of choosing which trust fund to apply to is to select one of the largest trust funds that donate to Scotland. Your organisation may be more likely to receive funds from one of these larger organisations. This is a quick and simple way of refining your search.

Web Search
Once you have decided which Trust to apply to, it is best to check their web site which should contain the most up to date information in their guidelines and criteria.

Trust Fund Books
There are many books available, which contain information on Trust Funds. Many of these books also contain information on the Trusts’ guidelines.

“A Guide to Scottish Trusts – 2006/07” is available from the DSC’s web site at a price of £28.00
As well as containing all of the biggest Scottish Trusts, this book also details trusts based outside Scotland but which donate to Scottish Organisations. This book can be viewed at MVSO, 30 High Street, Elgin, IV30 1BU, 01343 541413.

Specialist Trust Fund books on topics such as arts, sports and the environment can be purchased at around £20 from the DSC web site.

Searchable Databases
You can research trust funds using a database which can either be online or on a CD.
These databases are expensive (from £160 upwards) and can be purchased from the DSC website.

Funderfinder is one such database and you can book an appointment to use this at MVSO, 30 High Street, Elgin, IV30 1BU, 01343 541413.
