- Knowledge transfer across sectors to develop solutions for adding value to indigenous products and methods

- Increasing educational opportunities through innovative distance learning tools
- Enhancing implementation of advanced IT in businesses

Sustainable development of natural and community resources
- Development of expertise to prepare for climate change
- Initiatives to increase efficiency in established industries such as forestry, fishing and mining
- Development of models for maximising community benefit from proximity to major industries
- Urban-rural development and promotion of heritage suggested project areas:
- Development of bundled mobile rural services
- Urban-rural partnerships to develop new models of service of benefit to the rural area
- Development of cultural heritage through transnational collaboration especially using advanced ICT
