Local match funding

Area to be covered: Moray less Elgin and The Park area.

LEADER in Scotland 2007-2013 is divided into four Actions:

  • Action 1. Local Rural Development Strategies
  • Action 2. Co-operation
  • Action 3. LAG Running Costs
  • Action 4. Networking

Themes for LEADER

Enhanced development of rural Communities:

  • Revitalising Communities } LAGs select one of these top two themes and
  • Rural Community Capacity } have the option to select another from anywhere on the list
  • New Markets and Products
  • Progressive Rural Economy
  • Conservation of the Rural Environment

Revitalising Communities

  • Rural transport initiatives
  • Providing new or developing community for young people and other target groups; introducing or developing childcare provision
  • Improving access to areas of high environmental amenity
  • Innovative approaches to local rural services e.g. community shops or services, or adding value to Post Office

Rural Community Capacity

  • Community engagement & capacity building
  • Remote access IT provision to training courses/materials
  • Training in traditional and new rural skills such as dyking, animal welfare, or boat building
  • Developing skilled workforce through local lifelong learning

New Markets and Products

Developing sectors with growth potential:

  • alternative crops, forestry, collaboration to develop new processes or production, sharing of know how and new technology, food quality marketing groups. Remote marketing through IT, support to build markets through farmers markets, farm gate sales, and other alternative outlets.

Progressive Rural Economy

Link businesses to supply chain through IT:

  • new technology for small scale processing and packaging close to local produce with a focus on youth and young entrepreneurs. Create links with research institutions to develop specialist products. Home working

Agricultural or forestry diversification:

  • Rural micro enterprises aimed at employing women & young people e.g. craft workshops/outlets. All types of tourist activities accommodation, trails, interpretation signs/leaflets, marketing

Conservation of the Rural Environment

Natural, Cultural and Heritage with a wide community benefit:

  • Improving access to areas of high environmental or historical amenity. Developing tourist services and creating new recreational opportunities for natural heritage or historical sites. Using IT to research and collate information about local features, restructuring forests to improve sustainability and provide recreational facilities.
