News Article FUNDING INCREASE FOR RURAL BROADBAND - Posted: Jul 07, 2010
The Scottish Government has announced that Rural communities will be
able to bid for a share of a million-Euro fund to bring enhanced
broadband to their areas. The new investment is being delivered by the
LEADER scheme which supports small-scale, community driven projects in
rural areas and is aimed at improving coverage and bringing faster
broadband rural communities. LEADER is part of the Scottish Rural
Development Programme (SRDP), aimed at promoting economic and community
development within rural areas. LEADER is a bottom-up method of
delivering support for rural development through implementing a local
rural development strategy. Support is aimed primarily at small-scale,
community driven projects that are pilot and innovative in nature.
