FUNDING FOR SPORTS DOUBLES - Posted: Jun 11, 2010

The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced that its 2014 Communities
programme is changing, with the maximum grant available doubling to
£2,000. The application process has also been simplified making the
grants easier to access. BIG''s 2014 Communities programme aims to build
a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Through the programme more
people will be encouraged to take part and volunteer through sport or
physical activity as well as using sport as a way to bring together
people from different generations. In total £6.8 million will be
invested over the lifetime of the fund, which is recognised as part of
the Scottish Government''s Games Legacy plan. The development comes as
BIG announces the latest grants from the 2014 Communities Programme.
These include a grant of £1,000 to the 29th Glasgow (1st Newlands) Scout
Group to run a series of camps for young people aged 8-18, which will
offer an introduction to a variety of sporting and adventure activities.
The grant will be used to pay for 10 dome tents; and a grant of £810 to
Annette Street Primary School to buy play equipment to encourage young
children to become more physically active during breaktimes. The grant
will pay for a range of play equipment.
